"Take Off Point" feels like just the right collage for the morning. For this blog feels like a new beginning, at least for my artwork and in the ways to get it out in the world. But, also, this is one of the recent collages "under the influence" of Ray Johnson. Hard to describe how that is, except maybe I am moving faster in the composition of the image. And I am more conscious of working in typographic elements. The letters here come from old-style, rub-on type that advertisers used to utilize. (Thanks, Charter!)
I stumbled upon the technique used here when I saw my (then 4 year old) boy, Avery, rubbing his eraser randomly over the rows of letters and numbers. The images come from old Fortune magazines, mostly ads.
